Are Personal Blogs dying?

I'm the most guilty of this, but I used to use this blog as a journal, but now with the whole Twitter/Facebook thing, my blog is suffering BIG TIME.

Are personal blogs dying, or...are they already dead?

Sure I can create a post here and it forwards to my Twitter or Facebook, but it takes time to login, to create a new post, attach pics and links, blah blah blah...The only person who comments about my blog not being updated is my MOM!

How are you guys being affected?

i sorta feel like they are. i only update my personal site (www.mongchacha.com) once in a blue moon. i think twitter, facebook, and sharing on google reader makes me feel like i'm blogging since it also allows me to put in my two cents on whatever it is i'm sharing. oh, btw, i like your applebyte segments on cnet!

I'd "blame" Twitter more than FB for it since people can get their thoughts in immediately instead of even the effort to write on their blog or fb.

I'm on the edge of deleting my fb account anyways - can't stand that site and I so rarely log in. Twitter is much better for my personal wants. And FWIW I'd much rather read someone's blog update than any fb update.

I definitely think personal blogs are hurting BAD. Not only am i not posting as much as i use to, but I don't get many readers. Everyone expects it to be only 140 characters or its too much to read.

I think personal blogs are dying out. I have a blogspot account (nerdetechguy.blogspot.com) and used to make regular posts. Now I also use Facebook and Twitter and if I ever post anything on my blog, it's usually shortened to a paragraph (like the latest one), or I just end up deleting the post and opting to post it on fb and twitter.

There is one very important thing I noticed though. When I used to blog, I would take an hour or so to really think through what I wanted to say and the arguments/issues/statements I wanted to make. With facebook and twitter, I just post and go, almost no thinking involved. That I think is sad, I have tried to get back into blogging, especially to talk about issues I really care about, but I haven't been successful yet.

I personally think a blog has much more feeling and thought to it than a Facebook or a Twitter does. As Hunter mentioned, he actually has to think when he writes a blog versus not putting any thought into a tweet or a Facebook update. I think this says a lot about today's society and how our ways of communicating are changing. In a perfect world, I would love for everyone to blog. We would all potentially be much more intelligible individuals and actually have much more insight to the personalities of the people we're surrounded by every day. And the fact that next to nobody reads blogs doesn't help either. I haven't updated my blog for a week now and I know I haven't gotten any comments on the blog. How am I supposed to expect that people are reading my blog if nobody comments on my posts? Similar to your situation, my parents are the only ones who ever say anything about my posts, and this decreases my will to post anything whenever I feel a slight urge to do so. If I'm going to put effort and thought into a post, I want people to actually read it and appreciate the fact that I'm taking time out of my day to inform them on my life. All in all, I would agree that blogs are hurting, but I would love to see them become a much bigger trend. However, Facebook dominates the social sector of the internet and everybody is too hesitant to try anything else.

Much like grandpa when the paramedics showed up, they are already dead.
